Potsdamer Strasse 91 is home to a landmarked building complex, comprising of residential and commercial spaces originally built in the late 1800s. The complete restoration by AHM Architekten brought to life the old villa and industrial building with careful consideration of protected landmark regulations. In collaboration with Studio Dinnebier, we designed a light concept that would invite and guide visitors into the courtyard in a playful manner that respects the balance between its private and public audience. The ring-shaped luminaries in the entrance can be seen from the street, serving as an invitation for passers-by to enter the long courtyard. Here, zigzag and spherical light objects are arranged in a dynamic display, mounted onto a cable fixed to the building’s facade. The spheres were designed in such a way that direct light can be let into the courtyard while providing a soft illumination of the facade and avoiding glare for the residential inhabitants.
